Going the extra miles Dundee brothers’ charity rally to Mongolia

Two brothers from Dundee are to embark on the adventure of a lifetime this summer when they attempt to drive 10,000 miles to Mongolia for charity.

James, 21, and Matthew Wood, 19, study medicine at Edinburgh University but will leave their student lifestyles behind when they take part in the Mongol Rally.

Departing on July 13, participants are on their own once the rally starts and must find their own route through 21 countries, five mountains ranges and two deserts.

The rules of the rally say the cars must be less than 10 years old with a maximum engine size of 1.2. When they reach the finish the cars are repaired and donated to charities.

James said: “It is a proper adventure and a huge challenge. A large portion of the route is on unpaved roads far from civilization and every year a fair number of the entrants don’t get anywhere near Mongolia.”

The brothers aim to raise a target of at least £1,000 for the Dundee Disabled Children’s Association (DDCA).
