Police clamp down on ‘selfish’ parking at Dundee school
ByThe Courier Reporter
‘Selfish’ parking is becoming an issue at a new Dundee school.
Police patrols at the combined Victoria Park Primary and St Joseph’s school site have picked up on several motorists parking dangerously before and after classes.
The site was opened in October last year, and road markings outside were designed with parking issues in mind.
However, drivers picking up and dropping off pupils at the school have been spotted stopping on double yellow lines and in the “keep clear” zone outside the school.
One parent said: “I’m just dropping my kids off and I’m in a hurry. I don’t usually park here.
“I know it’s illegal and is dangerous but it’s only for a minute.”
A police spokesman said the problem was being caused by a small number of “selfish” motorists.
He said: “It’s people being inconsiderate. It causes problems for road users which is nothing new, but it was particularly bad yesterday. There were at least four people parking where they shouldn’t.
“It’s been really good for a long time before that.”
