The investigation into the alleged theft of a secret dossier on Tayside’s last chief constable from police headquarters in Dundee must be concluded swiftly to restore public confidence in the force, a senior politician has insisted.
As a wall of silence descended on the former Tayside Police HQ, Scottish Conservative chief whip John Lamont warned faith in the police would be undermined by a lengthy inquiry.
His comments came after The Courier revealed Police Scotland are investigating the alleged theft of the document, which detailed allegations of unprofessional behaviour made against former chief constable Justine Curran and her deputy Gordon Scobbie.
Neither Justine Curran nor her former deputy Angela Wilson, who compiled the dossier, would respond to our requests for comment. But a police source claimed the dossier had been created because of a personality clash at the top of Tayside Police.
However, this was disputed by Councillor Jimmy Black, who suggested the file may have been created as part of the investigation into anonymous complaints made against
Ms Curran last year.
All the complaints were dismissed following an investigation by Tayside Police Joint Board.
