Concern is growing for a Dundee pensioner missing since Monday.
Twitter and Facebook have been flooded with appeals for Christopher Jardine, 66, to return safely after police launched a social media campaign, which included photos of the pensioner, to help find him.
Caz Watson, Mr Jardine’s niece, said on Twitter: “Please keep looking for him. We just want to know where he is.”
Broughty Ferry Lifeboats vowed to use a scheduled training session in the Tay on Wednesday evening to continue looking for Mr Jardine, a former Housing Association worker, who vanished from his home at 10.30pm on Monday evening.
A spokesman for Broughty Ferry lifeboats said: “We have volunteered to use part of our training session tonight to help with the search in the hope of finding Mr Jardine alive.”
On Tuesday morning, the pensioner’s car was found abandoned on Riverside Drive near the Tay, between the bridges. Police then called lifeboats from Broughty Ferry and the Coastguard from Carnoustie and Arbroath.
A thorough search then began of the Tay and the nearby coastline between Dundee and Broughty Ferry. Search teams worked for more than three hours without success.
A police helicopter, called in from Glasgow, could also be seen assisting the search at low tide. A police spokesman said: “The search was completed and there was no trace of the missing person.
“It is important to say that nobody has seen a man going into the water, but it is a line of inquiry.”
When last seen, police say Mr Jardine was wearing light blue-coloured pyjamas and navy-coloured dressing gown and slippers. Mr Jardine also wears glasses, according to the police. He is described as being 5ft 7in with short grey hair.
Anyone who knows Mr Jardine’s whereabouts or who has information that could assist in tracing him should call 101 or speak to any police officer.
