A new night-time bus service has been launched in Dundee complete with pop music and a dancefloor!
The ClubCruiser, which has just been granted a licence by the city council, is the city’s first party bus and includes a dancing pole for more exotic moves.
The bus is the brainchild of Dundee taxi driver John Stewart, who saw a gap in the market after his stepson booked a similar bus from Glasgow for his night out last year.
“It gave me the idea because there’s nothing like that here,” John said.
“I researched it and it’s a big thing in America and in Europe, so I did my homework and realised the potential for getting a ClubCruiser bus going in Dundee.
“I put a lot of effort into getting it set up, it was loads of work and there were a lot of times when I thought is it worth it?
“It’s taken a while, but since I really started getting it up and running in January I’ve had loads of interest through the website. Basically the bus is a bigger form of an extended limo, it holds 16 people and there’s a dancefloor with a dance pole. It’s popular for hen nights, it’s basically a wee nightclub on wheels.
“Obviously people have to sit down with their seatbelts on while the bus is moving, but we stop so they can have a boogie during the journey.
“The idea is that people book the bus, we pick them up from their chosen place and drive around a route, stopping for a dance and then take them to wherever they want to go.
“We have deals with the nightclubs for priority entry and VIP packages with champagne on entry at the clubs, so it’s something unique for Dundee.”
John had to persuade councillors on the licensing committee through a site visit that the ClubCruiser wasn’t going to end up as a travelling public nuisance, with loud music being played outside residential properties.
Veteran councillor Tom Ferguson, who was unable to attend, said: “I’m just sorry I missed the experience. Perhaps I can book it for my stag night.”
