Owners of Dundee’s first indoor go-karting centre have put the business up for sale after only a year.
Dundee Karting was opened last August, but its directors have now announced it is on the market.
Before the centre opened in the 49,000 sq ft warehouse on the Gourdie Industrial Estate, there were hopes the business would prove to be hit.
However, in an announcement of the sale, directors of Karting Ecosse, Ray Hooper and John Kerr Sr, said they had reluctantly made the decision so they could focus on other commitments.
The main reason given for the decision was the release of Mr Kerr’s book, Killing Time, which was published in March and Mr Hooper said he also has other projects.
In the statement they said: “Dundee Karting has quickly established itself as Dundee’s number one leisure activity, but needs someone to take the business forward and continue to make improvements to the centre.”
Mr Hooper said there are no plans to close the centre, which he claims is “still popular andthriving.”
He said they are putting out feelers to see if there are any potential buyers who would continue to run the business as a karting centre, but wanted to assure karters if no buyer is found the centre will continue to run as normal.
He added both he and Mr Kerr had put significant investment into the centre and the company was not in any financial difficulty.
The building still has nine years remaining on a lease. Initially expected to open in April, the project to build the racetrack suffered delays with planning and construction.
Then, just four months after opening to the public, plans for a major track extension were announced.
As well as catering for adult groups, the centre also set up a junior cadets club to give youngsters aged between eight and 11 the chance to put their racing skills to the test.
Ranked 10 out of 24 Dundee attractions on TripAdvisor, the centre has been rated 4.5 out of 5 stars by customers.
