A Japanese cricket team led by a man with a Dundee and Angus family background is spreading love of the sport across the East Asian country.
The role of Scots in Japan’s increasing infatuation with cricket was highlighted in the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday by Scottish Conservative MSP Alex Johnstone.
He staged a members’ debate to highlight general trade links between the two countries, and how cricket has played such a crucial role within that.
It has been timed to mark the arrival in the UK of the Japanese cricket team.
The head of the Japan Cricket Association, Naoki Alex Miyaji, is half-Scottish, with his family hailing from Dundee and Montrose.
He helped establish the charity Cricket for Smiles, which helps victims of the 2011 earthquake and subsequent tsunami.
