Prized treasures of Dundee’s McManus Gallery will be put on show for the first time on Monday.
Housed at the Barrack Street Centre the artefacts which will be out in the public gaze include everything from an ancient Egyptian mummy to model ships and stuffed birds and preserved fish.
Many of the items are extremely fragile and have to be delicately handled by staff with protective gloves. There are a number of pieces from an Egyptian collection and the museum works closely with Dundee University to conduct research.
A wealth of local history is also included with various Red Cross artefacts, military items, a diving helmet, an old anatomy skeleton and, rather bizarrely, a Michelin Man.
As well as a feast for the eyes, experts will also be on hand to talk to people about the significance of the collection. The items will come out of hiding at the open day from 11am to 3pm on Monday.
