Dundee’s first director of social work, Michael “Tony” Gillespie, has died aged 84.
Mr Gillespie moved from London to Dundee to become the city’s first director of social work.
He was also a chairman of Age Concern Scotland, worked as a senior lecturer in social work at Edinburgh University and then serving as director of social work for Fife from 1976 to 1986.
His son Mark said: “He will be well missed, he had a great love of classical music, particularly the operatics, and also enjoyed fishing.
“He’s now moved on but he will be sadly missed by all the family.”
Mr Gillespie is survived by his wife Ann, their children, Simon, Mark, Jonathan, Peter and Karen, 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
