James Bond fans from far and wide flocked to Dundee on Saturday to celebrate Sir Roger Moore’s James Bond legacy. Dundee Contemporary Arts was packed as the venue marked 40 years since Sir Roger’s first appearance as 007 with a special showing of Moonraker. Word of mouth saw tickets snapped up quickly with fans from as far as the Highlands attending the event, which was dubbed Sir Roger Moore Day. They enjoyed Vodka Martini cocktails afterwards as they gathered to discuss the film with fellow enthusiasts. Sir Roger’s first appearance as Bond was in 1973’s Live and Let Die and he played 007 in seven outings before bowing out in 1985’s View to a Kill. Released in 1979, Moonraker was the highest grossing Bond movie until GoldenEye. Catriona MacPhee (28), from Fort William, was among those who gathered at the DCA to see Sir Roger on the big screen. She said: “The six-hour round trip from the Highlands was worth every penny.” Rachel Lonie (15), from Dundee, added: “Sir Roger is without doubt the best Bond.”
