Measures to improve pedestrian safety outside two city schools were approved, but councillors stressed that it was still the responsibility of parents to park properly.
Restrictions will be brought in at St Mary’s Lane in Lochee, by St Mary’s RC Primary, and at Fintry Place in Broughty Ferry, by Forthill Primary. These will prevent signposted stretches of road being used by vehicles while pupils are arriving and leaving.
Education convener Stewart Hunter said this was a promising start to ongoing efforts to deal with problem parking.
“This is progress, but we still have to send a message that parents have to be very responsible and park safely,” he added.
West End councillor Fraser Macpherson said there had been problems at the Blackness Road twin primary campus, including parents parking on zig-zig and double yellow lines and even blocking a nearby street.
Council transportation manager Neil Gellatly said parking enforcement officers were aware of the issue. Their mobile team was targeting at least one school daily and called on police support when needed.
