A major Dundee employer hosted the city’s first citizen on a fact-finding mission.
Lord Provost Bob Duncan was shown around the Michelin factory on Baldovie Road as part of a series of company visits he will be making in the coming weeks.
He said: “Michelin is an example of a company which has been welcomed into Dundee and is now a landmark in its own right with its wind turbines standing as markers to its location at Baldovie Road.
“The Dundee factory was the first Michelin facility in the world to embrace wind energy, helping to reduce the plant’s environmental impact and energy bills.
“In fact the plant, which opened in 1972, has a long and proud history of innovation and now manufactures over 7,000,000 car tyres each year for export all over the world.”
With more than 111,000 employees in more than 170 countries, Michelin is a leading name in tyre manufacture. As well as making tyres the company also publishes travel guides, hotel and restaurant guides and maps and road atlases.
The visit to the factory, which employs around 800 people, was hosted by manager John Reid.
