Dundee hairdressing students take a step back in time
ByThe Courier Reporter
Historical hairdressing was the theme of a competition held at Dundee College.
About 25 students on the NC level 5 hairdressing programme took part in a Style Through the Ages competition at the Kingsway Campus.
The student hairdressers were asked to create hairstyles from a chosen period in history and prepare make-up and a costume.
By combing through the wardrobes of friends and relatives, the students created some classic looks from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.
Their models were recruited from other hairdressing classes or their friends and family.
Lecturer Janice Paterson said: “Competition work is an important part of the hairdressing industry. Like catwalk shows are to the fashion industry, competition plays an important role in the hairdressing and beauty industry so events of this sort give valuable experience to our students and help prepare them for a career in a salon.”
Staff judges looked for expertise across the whole look make-up and costumes as well as hairstyles.
