Charity fears foul play after cat drowns in Broughty Ferry harbour

The Scottish SPCA is investigating if a cat that drowned was deliberately thrown into the sea at Broughty Ferry harbour.
The cat was seen struggling in the water at about 9pm on Monday.
Despite a member of the public climbing into the water, efforts to save it were unsuccessful.
An appeal has been made for anyone who may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the area to contact the charity. It said it feared the black and white male cat may have been thrown into the water on purpose.
Animal rescue officer Steph Alexander said: “While this cat may have fallen into the water, Broughty Ferry harbour isn’t a place where cats typically wander.
“For this reason, we can’t rule out the possibility someone threw him in as an act of deliberate cruelty.”
The charity responded after receiving a call from the public.
Ms Alexander said: “I tried to revive him when I arrived but there was just too much water in his lungs and, tragically, he passed away.
“Unfortunately, he wasn’t micro-chipped or wearing a collar so we’ve been unable to trace his owner.”
