A registered nurse has been found guilty of misconduct.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) decided Wendy Mitchell made mistakes in administering drugs to patients on five occasions while she worked at Ninewells Hospital in 2007 and 2008.
She was cleared of a sixth charge of failing to complete a patient’s records properly.
A disciplinary panel rejected a claim by Mrs Mitchell’s legal representative that her human rights had been breached by the length of time it had taken the case to be heard.
The panel were told Mrs Mitchell had last worked as a nurse in 2009 and was now a carer.
They said: “Given the seriousness of facts found proved, the panel considers that Mrs Mitchell’s conduct constituted serious departures from the standards expected of a registered nurse. The facts found proved had the potential to cause patient harm.”
The NMC has imposed a 12-month order on Mrs Mitchell requiring her to complete an approved return-to-practice course, with a focus on drug administration, before she can resume work as a nurse.
