A Dundee doctor has reached a financial deal with his former employees over their unfair dismissal claims.
Dr Charles Miller used to run the GP surgery in Ardler.
After he had restrictions imposed on his working practices by the General Medical Council his contract with NHS Tayside was ended in summer 2011, leaving 1,700 patients to find another doctor.
Former staff Miss N Dickson, Duncan Terrace; Miss D Higgins, Rosemount Road; Mrs EA McKenna, Camperdown Road and Mrs S Murray, Buttars Street, took Dr Miller to an employment tribunal.
In September the tribunal ruled that all four had been unfairly dismissed and were entitled to redundancy payments, along with damages owing to his breach of contract through failing to give them notice of the termination of their employment.
A remedy hearing was fixed for February and, after discussions between the parties, Dr Miller advised the tribunal he was prepared to pay his former employees the sums they were claiming.
The tribunal has now had confirmation the payments have been made, although the amounts have not been disclosed. As the cases have been settled, the unfair dismissal claims have been formally dismissed.
Since the closure of the GP surgery in Turnberry Avenue campaigners have been trying to persuade NHS Tayside to restore a full service to the area.
At present there is only a clinic with limited opening hours. Health chiefs decided to write to hundreds of patients who transferred to Downfield surgery to ensure they knew about the clinic, following claims it was under-used.
Dr Miller has since submitted a planning application to the city council seeking permission to turn his former premises into a day care centre capable of looking after 40 children.
Drawings show the consultations rooms being transformed into a large play area, with the patients’ waiting room becoming a dining area.
The council has yet to rule on the application.
