ByThe Courier Reporter
A 20-year-old man got so drunk after his father’s funeral he assaulted a woman, hit a random cyclist with a piece of wood and spat on a police officer.
Darren William Jackson, Balbeggie Street, Dundee, admitted that on February 21, at Balmoral Gardens, he assaulted a woman, seized her by the body and punched her on the head, all to her injury.
He further admitted assaulted a person unknown by striking him on the body with a piece of wood, behaving in a threatening and abusive manner, shouting and swearing, uttering threats of violence and repeatedly striking a door with a piece of wood.
He also admitted assaulting PC Peter Smith by spitting on him at Baluniefield Road, all while on bail. Solicitor Anika Jethwa said Jackson had a serious alcohol problem and that was the day of his father’s funeral.
She said: “He appreciates he is in a serious position.”
Sheriff Derek O’Carroll said: “If I could I would sentence you to custody today but because of your age I’m obliged to call for reports and you will be remanded in custody.”
Sentence was deferred until April 11.
