A Dundee mum has paid tribute to her son, who collapsed and died at the age of 38 after meeting friends in a pub.
Originally from Ardler, Gary Flood finished his job with Barclays on Monday last week. He went to the pub with friends but as he stood up to leave, he collapsed and never recovered.
Paramedics and doctors battled to save him, but his family were told he died straight away.
His mum Lorraine, 63, from St Mary’s, said: “The post-mortem was done and they couldn’t find any reason why he died. One of his friends and two soldiers tried to resuscitate him but he was gone. We don’t know the soldiers, but we want to let them know that we appreciate what they have done.”
Lorraine, a social care worker, said: “The doctors said there is no conclusive evidence. They are still doing a couple of tests but they said it could take three months.
“We are just shocked and totally stunned. But he didn’t suffer that’s the way we are looking at it.”
Mr Flood grew up in Dundee and was working and living in Falkirk when he died, and Lorraine said he had a good circle of friends.
“I saw him last Sunday he came to Dundee for the derby and he brought me flowers for Mother’s Day,” Lorraine said. “That was the last time I saw him. I still can’t believe he’s gone and I am just devastated.”
Mr Flood had been in a relationship with Samantha Daniels for about 16 years.
He attended St Fergus Primary and Lawside Academy before achieving a first class honours degree in computer studies at Dundee University.
