Remploy says the door is still open for bidders to take over its closure-threatened factory in Dundee.
The company was disappointed the Dundee Working Group led by Lord Provost Bob Duncan felt it was unable to submit a high-level bid for the site.
A spokeswoman for Remploy insisted the views “are those of only one potential bidder and this does not accurately represent the current situation at Dundee”.
“No decisions have been made about the future of the factory in Dundee or the future of its employees,” she added.
The working group announced on Monday that it was abandoning its efforts to save the factory because of the limited information provided by Remploy.
It said it was impossible to separate the costs of the Dundee operation from the linked factories at Stirling and Clydebank to allow an accurate assessment of the Dunsinane Avenue factory’s viability.
Remploy said it launched a commercial process on December 12 which invited bids from individuals or organisations interested in the Frontline Textiles business or its individual sites at Dundee, Clydebank and Stirling.
The bid deadline for the business or sites is 5pm on Thursday. The Courier understands no bids have been submitted for the Dundee factory on its own as yet.
