Harris Academy pupils to use temporary buildings costing £525,000

Councillors have agreed to spend £525,000 on temporary modular buildings at the former Rockwell High School.
The extra classrooms will be needed from this summer when the site becomes the home of pupils and staff from Harris Academy for three years while it is being demolished to make way for a replacement.
Labour councillor Kevin Keenan said he wanted to see the best for the pupils but given the size of the bill he queried if the city council had considered other options.
Chief executive David Dorward said the details of the operation had been approved by the project board overseeing the rebuild of Harris Academy.
Using temporary buildings was the best option as it would ensure the whole school could be kept together on one site. It would not be appropriate if some children had to be sent to other schools, he said.
Councillors have also approved spending £115,000 to replace window cladding at St Luke’s and St Matthew’s RC Primary and £15,000 on new fire doors and window winders at Craigie High School.
