One of the UK’s leading charities is offering two lovebirds the chance to tie the knot in style this summer by hanging from a rope 130ft in the air.
In a twist on their traditional annual abseil fundraiser in Dundee, Marie Curie Cancer Care are looking for a special couple with a head for heights and an appetite for adventure to say their vows whilst abseiling side by side down Dundee University Tower Building, Perth Road, on June 2.
Charity patron Petra McMillan believes the wedding, thought to be the first of its kind in the city, is a natural fit with Marie Curie Cancer Care, the charity that provides free professional nursing care to the terminally ill at home.
“Our motto is ‘Celebrate Life’ and what better way to mark the Marie Curie Daredevil Challenge than with as joyous an event as a wedding?” she said.
“Last year I was struck by the great number of people doing our abseil in memory of a loved one they had lost and we wanted to create an opportunity to make that day even more special for one couple.”
While the charity will waive the normal entry fee for the couple, the newly-weds will still be asked to fundraise for the charity like their fellow daredevils.
Marie Curie cares for people with all terminal diagnoses, including heart disease, dementia and lung disorders.
Currently for every one family that Marie Curie can help in the Tayside and Fife area, one is turned away due to lack of funds.
The Marie Curie Daredevil Challenge is the biggest single fundraising event for the charity in the local area.
Again the organisers are looking for 65 people, aged 16 and over to take part. Each person pays a £15 registration fee and pledges to raise a minimum of £100 for the charity.
Entries are now available from Petra McMillan on 07717 810365 or via petra-mcmillan@sky.com. Due to time constraints on the day, only one couple can be married during the abseil.
