Dundee man fined for mistaken drugs purchase

A 37-year-old man who bought what he thought was the party drug bubbles was shocked when an initial police test showed a trace of cocaine.

But Dundee Sheriff Court heard that a subsequent test revealed that Lukasz Domanski had actually bought more than eight grams of amphetamine.

Domanski, Park Avenue, admitted possessing the class B drug in Sandeman Street on October 4 last year.

Depute fiscal Nicola Gillespie told the court that police officers had stopped and searched Domanski at around 10.15pm and had found two small bags containing eight grams of white powder.

Ms Gillespie said: “The substance was initially field-tested and showed the presence of cocaine. The test is not 100% reliable and a further test showed it was amphetamine.”

Gary McIlravey, defending, said his client had come to his office in a “near apoplectic state” after thinking he had inadvertently bought cocaine, a class A drug.

He said: “He set out to buy bubbles and thought the substance he was sold 10 grams of was that.

“He is agog at the result that it was ampmetamine and not bubbles. He is a first-time offender and his part in the court process has been an eye-opener for him.”

Fining Domanski £135, Sheriff Elizabeth Munro told him: “This was a bit of a lesson for you, as it wasn’t even what you thought you had bought.”
