The widow of a Perthshire father-of-five murdered on a night out in Dundee has claimed police have given up on the hunt for his killer.
Donna McMurchie (40) said she was “gutted” to be told that no detectives are currently assigned to the case of her husband John (50), who was found dying in the street after being stabbed in August.
Mrs McMurchie said she now “no longer trusts” the police, eight months after her beloved husband was killed.
The Tayside Division of Police Scotland last night admitted that detectives are not working on the murder full-time, but stressed that the case had not been closed and any new lines of inquiry would be pursued.
John McMurchie, who lived in Errol, died from his injuries after being found in Fintry Terrace in Dundee in the early hours of August 12.
Mrs McMurchie said she was told at a meeting with officers in February that no detectives were working on the case.
She said: “They said they have investigated all the avenues that they could and there was no more they could do without finding the murder weapon.
“The only way now is for the person to come forward and say they did it but they’re not going to do that are they? Let’s face it.”
Speaking for the first time since the tragedy, Mr McMurchie’s brother Bruce (54) added that the last few months had been “torture” for the whole family.
