Late Courier cartoonist Gordon Bell’s work will live on thanks to a tribute calendar produced by Monifieth Rotary Club. Gordon, who died in February aged 79, was a founder member of the club and went on to become president. His artwork appeared under the byline Fax and his satirical drawings were a feature of the paper’s Saturday political diary. He also lent his talent and sharp sense of humour to the Craigie column where his cartoons appeared every day. Rotarian Donald Mackerron said: “He used to have a saying that Rotary is fun and often did cartoons for us if we had a race night or quiz night.” Mr Bell had a 57-year career as a freelance illustrator and cartoonist with DC Thomson.
