Sex assault probe: woman charged with wasting police time

A woman is expected to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court today charged with wasting police time by falsely reporting that she had been sexually assaulted.

Her appearance is in connection with a full-scale alert put in place by police last week in the city’s Eastwell Road area.

Sections of the area were cordoned off while police conducted inquiries into the claims.

Police confirmed at the weekend that the investigation is now over.

A spokesman said: ”Tayside Police can confirm that their investigation into an alleged sexual assault on a woman in Dundee’s Eastwell Road at about 6.45pm on Tuesday, August 21, is complete.

”As a result of those inquiries a 36-year-old woman is to be reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with wasting police time.”
