NO CHARGES have been brought in the immediate aftermath of an investigation involving 24 Tayside Police drugs squad officers.
In November, we exclusively revealed the serving officers were to be questioned as suspects in the latest stage of a long-running probe into the operation of the force’s drugs squad.
Operation Teal was initially launched earlier this year following concerns which emerged from an internal Tayside Police inquiry into aspects of the running of the department, with some matters believed to relate to historic practices.
That subsequently led to neighbouring Grampian Police becoming involved in an independent review of the Tayside squad.
The inquiry developed into one of the biggest investigations into alleged police criminality in recent Scottish history, amid claims the probe revolved around so-called “Sweeney-style” policing.
Any decision over whether a prosecution will be raised rests with the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, but it is believed that, at this stage, no Tayside officer has been charged in connection with the latest stage of Operation Teal.
