A HOTEL Santa quit after a confrontation with a guest on Christmas Day.
Festive celebrations at the Apex Hotel on Dundee’s waterfront were disrupted when a worker was involved in a physical set-to with a customer.
Staff said the man had been due to act as Santa for the gathering but had turned up late.
A source said: “There were events on for guests staying at the hotel over Christmas. One piece of entertainment for the children was that Santa would come in during dinner and give out presents.
“A member of staff who was meant to dress up as Santa got into an altercation with a guest.
“The guest had said something to him and that’s what sparked the incident. A manager had to be called in and he ended up being Santa instead.”
Police were not called following the incident.
Tjeerd Van Pelt, food and beverage manager at the Apex, said the matter had been dealt with internally by the hotel.
He said: “This is something which we’ve resolved within ourselves. I’m not going to comment any further.”
The staff member involved in the row admitted there had been a “coming together” with a guest.
He said he had quit the hotel, a decision he had taken because of the hours he was working.
He said: “I came into work and there were three people at reception. They were being very loud and swearing.
“I challenged them to stop and thereafter they got aggressive.
“The gentleman and I did come together but no arms were used, no punches were thrown and I certainly wasn’t dressed as Santa.”
