A FORMER Dundee councillor has lost his decades-long battle with lung problems.
Charleston-born Tom Robbins, who represented the Lochee area of Dundee in the 1970s and 1980s, passed away in hospital after numerous chest infections. He was 65.
In his twenties, while an RAF recruit stationed in Germany with his young family, Mr Robbins had a large portion of one of his lungs removed. He returned to Dundee, having taken medical retirement, and followed his father Tom Robbins Snr into local politics.
Mr Robbins lived in London with his partner Julia Cave, whom he had met on one of his many trips to Cyprus.
His daughter Elaine (46) said her dad would spend up to four months at a time in the heat of the Mediterranean but always loved returning to his home town.
She said: “Dad was always up and stayed in touch with friends. He was a big Dundee United fan and used to go to the matches with my brother Michael.
“It was always his intention to come back home to Dundee when he was older and he will be buried beside his mum and dad.”
