Dundee on the menu for Come Dine With Me

Keen cooks in Dundee are being urged to don their aprons and get their knives sharpened for TV hit Come Dine With Me.

The Channel 4 show is searching for five creative culinary types with an eye for entertaining to take part.

Casting researcher Christian Misuraca said: “We are looking for amateur cooks so not anyone with professional training or who has worked as a chef before.

“We are looking for a nice group of five different people from different walks of life, different ages, who wouldn’t normally meet.”

This is not the first time the television cookery competition has been staged in Dundee.

During its seventh series, Come Dine With Me headed to the Tay when Jimmy Fox served up thoroughly Scottish cuisine, sculpting his main course into a set of bagpipes with green beans threaded through carrots and haggis wrapped in steak.

Then two Decembers ago it was the turn of celebrity-loving Jessica McLaren who presented a completely different take on dinner when she dished up some showbiz “glitterette” otherwise known as glittery peas.

Christian said part of the show’s appeal, which has led to its nearly six years of success, is the diversity of characters it attracts.

“It’s a celebration of the quirkiness of society,” he said. “It’s unique every show depending on how the relationships develop over the week.”

Anyone with a passion for cooking can apply.

“If someone applies we send them a form with a few questions so there’s an idea about what their menu and night would be like,” Christian added.

“We try to find out as much as we can about the people before. We don’t go out of our way to pick people who are complete polar opposites. It just happens sometimes when you’ve got five strangers.”

The Dundee show will be filmed from March 18 to 22, with each contestant taking it in turn to host their ideal dinner party in a bid to win £1,000.

The Come Dine With Me crew will spend the next few weeks scouting out the city and potential filming locations as they whittle down the final five.

Christian said: “I’m looking forward to coming to Dundee. I’ve heard really good things about it.”
