Councillors are set to approve a near-£500,000 project to expand Birkhill cemetery.
Planning permission has already been granted and the proposals will see Tayside Contracts build new roads and car parking and lay drainage at the site, a field that lies to the north of the existing graveyard.
A deer fence will also be set up to keep animals out of the area and walls will be repaired.
The site could accommodate up to 10,000 burials over the next 60 years or so. It will complement the new cemetery being created to the east of the city at Drumsturdy Road.
Environment convener Craig Melville said: “It’s all about planning for the future, as we’ll get 15 to 20 years’ capacity out of the current plan.
“The work will basically do the extension of internal roads, car parking and drainage for the cemetery.
“It also helps provide and maintain jobs within the area for the environment department and Tayside Contracts.”
Concerns have been raised in the past about flooding at the cemetery, next to Templeton Woods, but council officers have said there is more than six hectares of land which can be safely used for graves.
