A man sustained serious injuries last night after his car left the road in the Mearns.
The driver, who was in his forties, was rushed to hospital following the accident on the A92 near Johnshaven at around 8.20.
Emergency services attended the scene near the turn-off for Lathallan School and the man was initially treated by firefighters.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and took the motorist to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for further treatment.
A spokesman for Grampian Fire and Rescue confirmed the man had been the sole occupant of the vehicle.
He added: “The vehicle has left the road and ended up in a field. One male casualty was removed and was treated by firefighters, and then paramedics, before being conveyed to ARI.”
Officers from Grampian Police assisted firefighters in carrying out a search of the area to ensure no passengers had been thrown from the car.
Staff at the force control room were unable to confirm the severity of the man’s injuries but it is understood they are not thought to be life threatening.
