The owners of a Dundee private care hospital which is currently the subject of a police investigation into the behaviour of five of its staff members has gone into administration.
Castlebeck Care, which owns Monroe House in Americanmuir Road, said it had taken the decision to ensure “user security” at its Scottish and English facilities.
The staff members, understood to be carers, were suspended in January as a result of allegations by relatives of residents.
Tayside Police confirmed it had received a complaint about the conduct of staff members, but no one has yet been charged in connection with the investigation.
Castlebeck operates independent hospital assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and residential care units from 20 sites located in Scotland, the Midlands, and North East England with a combined occupancy of 214 patients and residents.
The company was hit by scandal last year when 11 members of staff at its Winterbourne View private hospital in Hambrook, South Gloucestershire were sentenced for their roles in the “gross breach of trust and power” against vulnerable adults there.
Six of the workers, including two nurses, were jailed, with five others receiving suspended prison sentences.
Joint administrator Daniel Smith said: “Castlebeck operates care facilities for high dependency learning disability and mental health patients and residents.
“The Winterbourne View facility abuse incident led to the immediate closure of that hospital in mid-2011 with the Group promptly undertaking a root and branch internal review of its Castlebeck operations.
“With a sale of the entire business to one purchaser unlikely to be achieved in the short term, the board have today accordingly appointed ourselves as Administrators.
“A number of prospective purchasers have already shown their interest in acquiring the individual Castlebeck operating units, which will continue to operate and trade normally whilst such sales are progressed, and new owners emerge.
“We are engaged in discussions with the care regulators, local authorities and other stakeholders regarding the administration processes.”
