‘Nan who loves naan’ celebrates after winning Curry Lover of the Year
ByThe Courier Reporter
Scotland’s Curry Lover of the Year, Margaret Phillips, celebrated her title win with family and friends at Dundee’s Balcarres Care Home.
Margaret, 103, enjoyed a prawn madras as the home staged a curry-themed party featuring a number of the spicy dishes she adores.
The centenarian was dubbed the “nan who loves naan” thanks to attributing her good health and longevity to a love of fine Indian cuisine and received a string of competition nominations.
Margaret, who has 16 great-grandchildren, was born in Dundee in 1912. She spent almost 15 years living in India with her second husband and it was there that she discovered a love of fiery food that has stayed with her ever since.
