Kengo Kuma’s design for the V&A at Dundee is in the running for a prestigious architecture prize before construction work on the building has even begun.
The Japanese architect’s design for the £45 million museum, which will open in early 2015, has been entered in the civic buildings category of the World Architecture News Awards.
Over 120 architects entered the competition to design the museum. Mr Kuma’s entry was chosen from a shortlist of six in November 2010.
The museum will be built on a pier-like structure out on the Tay at Craig Harbour.
A team of architects from Mr Kuma’s Tokyo practice will arrive in Scotland in September to begin work on the project.
The Scottish Government is expected to meet around a third of the cost of the museum, with the private sector and other sources of funding, such as the lottery, providing the rest.
