The Salvation Army Citadel in Dundee city centre has been closed after falling into disrepair.
The premises in West Marketgait shut its doors after Sunday’s service and a spokeswoman for the organisation said worshippers would be sharing the Methodist Church on the other side of the street for the foreseeable future.
She said, “We can confirm that The Salvation Army’s building in West Marketgait is now closed. Our building is no longer fit for purpose.
“We have been actively seeking new premises for Dundee Central Corps to continue its programme of worship and service to the community for a number of years but, to date, have not found suitable premises.
“We aim to use this temporary relocation to reflect and consider all options available to us.”
The Salvation Army’s Sunday services have been attended by about 50 regulars, and the organisation continues to run other ventures in the city, including a homeless project.
The Salvation Army spokeswoman said that while it was sad that the citadel building which suffered significant damage in a fire in June 2006 had to close, it marks an exciting new chapter in the history of Dundee Central Corps.
Worship meetings, led by corps officers Lt Chris and Andrina Downie, will be held at Dundee Methodist Church, 20 West Marketgait, every Sunday at 3pm until further notice.
