Dundee United say they will not tolerate the actions of a 30-year-old man who has been banned from every football ground in Scotland for punching a father in the head during a match at Tannadice.
The club will consider the incident in more detail and may ban Mark Taylor from their ground for longer than the two years imposed by a sheriff.
Dundee Sheriff Court was told Taylor launched a tirade of foul-mouthed abuse from the Shed End of Tannadice Park and later hit Michael Walker, who was at the match with his three young children, after Mr Walker asked him to stop.
Taylor (30), of Balgowan Avenue, avoided jail on Wednesday after admitting the assault, which happened during the game against Hibs on October 30 last year, during an earlier court appearance.
But he was ordered to complete 240 hours’ community service and given a two-year football banning order, after he also admitted being drunk at the ground, and failing to appear at court on November 23.
He had further admitted charges of acting in an aggressive and threatening manner, shouting, swearing and uttering threats of violence at a house on Lauderdale Place on October 14, and struggling violently with policeman Scott Kerr and attempting to bite his arm.
A United spokesman said, “Tannadice is a family-friendly stadium and such actions are unacceptable.”
