A friend of the drummer from The View was handed a £600 fine when he appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Bryan Murphy (27), Dundonald Street, was given the penalty after he had previously admitted punching a man in a city centre street on the morning of October 25 2010, while in the company of chart-topper Steven Morrison.
The court had previously heard that Morrison and Murphy had been at a works night out in Fat Sam’s nightclub and that trouble had flared outside the venue.
Later, the pair had attacked Craig Cairnie in Bank Street in an incident that was caught on CCTV. Morrison had already been fined £900 for his part in the assault.
Sheriff Elizabeth Munro said Murphy’s part in the attack was not as serious as Morrison’s but he had a criminal record.
The court was told that Murphy had been fired from his job and was not pursuing a claim for unfair dismissal, following a period of suspension.
He had found new work at a city pub but had lost a considerable amount of earnings in the interim.
Sheriff Munro said she would take into account Murphy’s limited means and ordered him to pay a fine of £600, reduced from £900 in recognition of his early guilty plea.
