Sainsbury’s are hoping to open a convenience store in Dundee’s Hawkhill.
A planning application for the development has been lodged with the city council by local company Moark Ltd.
The proposed site, at the junction with Annfield Street, is presently occupied by a car wash, which would be demolished.
The 400 square metre store would bear the ‘Sainsbury’s Local’ brand a convenience chain the company has been rolling out around the UK and which now has almost 380 outlets. There would also be a 10-space car park.
A Sainsbury’s spokesman said, “We are pleased to confirm that we are working with Moark Ltd to deliver a new Sainsbury’s Local to Dundee.
“The new store will bring many benefits to the area with new jobs and will provide a high quality convenience offer to this part of Dundee.”
The number of jobs has yet to be confirmed. Sainsbury’s already operate a supermarket at Claypotts.
