Police are investigating a claim thousands of pounds in deposits for functions at a popular Dundee pub have disappeared.
Officers have visited The Centenary Bar in Clepington Road after allegations up to £3,500 had gone missing.
The money relates to bookings for more than 40 functions due to take place between now and spring.
Mark McGurty whose wife Leehanne has taken over as licensee said the issue with the function deposits had come to light after they had taken over.
New functions manageress Sara Hay has spent the past week contacting the parties concerned to inform them of the situation.
Mr McGurty said all booked functions would be honoured and the premises would be let free to those affected.
However, he said some clients could still be hit with extra costs as the pub could not provide free security or DJs.
Former licensee Tahir Ramzan said he was aware of rumours about deposit cash but he denied any involvement.
Mr Ramzan said: ”There is a lot of unfounded claims being thrown about which I want nothing to do with.”
Brewers Scottish and Newcastle confirmed they were aware of the probe.
Spokeswoman Lucy Hall said: ”We are naturally taking this matter seriously and we will co-operate fully with any investigation. We hope the matter can be speedily resolved for the lessee and customers involved.”
