A pedestrian walkway over a stretch of Dundee railway line would be a huge boost to the area, says a local councillor.
West end representative Jim Barrie believes plans to construct a bridge that would link Seabraes with Riverside Drive could be decisive in attracting companies to the area.
The construction of a bridge has been desired by local residents, particularly students near the Perth Road area, for many years and has become a possibility following the donation of over £1.4 million from the Scottish Government.
Although the overall cost is expected to exceed this, members of Dundee City Council’s city development committee are expected to back the proposals when they are discussed on Monday.
Mr Barrie said, “This allocation from the Scottish Government under the Vacant and Derelict Land Fund will have a hugely positive impact on the area.
“It should help stimulate economic growth in the area, promote the use of pedestrian access down from the university area to Riverside, and I am sure will be most welcome to the residents in my ward.
“I hope also this will stimulate interest for business use in the Seabraes area.”
Dundee City Council has been allocated £1,435,700 from the Scottish Government’s Vacant and Derelict Land Fund Programme.
Although no location has been finalised for the bridge, it is likely to cross the railway line near the former Homebase site and Tesco.
