Explosions in the sky: police unable to confirm source of late-night blast

Police in Dundee say they have been unable to confirm the source of a loud bang reported in the city on Thursday evening.
The Courier was contacted by locals who heard the “explosion” at around 11pm, and there are also numerous postings about it on Twitter and Facebook.
Police confirmed the noise was also heard by their officers. They say they have investigated but have so far been unable to confirm the source.
Responding to a query on the Tayside Police Facebook page (link), a spokesman said: “Officers on duty in Dundee last night also heard the noise.
“Patrols were carried out across the city and checks made with air traffic control but no information has been received as yet to explain where the noise came from or what caused it.”
It is thought the blast may be linked to a fire at allotments on the Law, but that has not been confirmed.
