Dundee University will be the target of a Commando raid this weekend.
But the Tower Building’s foyer gallery will still be safe for visitors as the only soldiers present will be two-dimensional.
The university is joining forces with publishers DC Thomson to hold an exhibition of artwork from popular war comic Commando, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Editor Calum Laird, who will be at the official opening, said: “It’s great that two such respected institutions as the university and Commando can get together to put on a show like this.
“The displays will give any visitor a behind-the-scenes glance at the day-to-day life of Britain’s longest-lived adventure comic. I hope loads of people will take advantage of the rare opportunity given to them by the university.”
This is the fourth year the university has collaborated with DC Thomson.
Curator Matthew Jarron said: “After the Dandy and the Beano, Commando is now the oldest surviving comic in the UK and its popularity shows no sign of diminishing.
“We’re delighted to be showing work by some of the artists who have made the comic so popular over the years, including Ian Kennedy, Gordon Livingstone, Carlos Pino, John Ridgway and Cam Kennedy.”
The exhibition will be open to the public until November 19.
Cam Kennedy will be among guest speakers at the annual comics day on October 30, part of the Dundee Literary Festival.Find out more about Commando by visiting www.commandocomics.com
