Broughty Ferry woman hopes mail mistakes are not sign of more problems at Dundee East office

Royal Mail’s Dundee East posties have again come under fire after a Broughty Ferry woman received mail for five different people who live in neighbouring streets.

The woman, who lives in Davidson Street, says she has had two separate parcels for the same house number, but for two different streets, plus three Christmas cards for different house numbers in her own street.

She says after all the problems with deliveries from the Dundee East depot in the run-up to Christmas last year, Royal Mail made promises this year which she feels they are already breaking.

The woman said: ”Since the start of this month my partner and I have had to deliver parcels to people in Cedar Grove and Cedar Road, two separate streets round the corner from me.

”My street is clearly marked Davidson Street, so where are they getting the idea these parcels were for me? If the posties are putting the wrong mail through my letterbox are they sticking my mail through other people’s?”

She added: ”The postal service was terrible last year and we hoped it would be better this year, but they’ve already started getting it wrong again.

”Is it because they are using temporary posties, or have the existing ones just gone blind all of a sudden?

”Although I delivered the parcels myself I’ve just put the letters back in the postbox so hopefully the people they were meant for will get their mail.

”After all the muck-ups last year I just thought: ‘Here we go again, nothing’s changed’.”

Royal Mail senior external relations manager Morag Turnbull said: ”Royal Mail would like to apologise to the customer for any inconvenience caused and assure them that measures have been put in place to rectify this matter.”

Royal Mail recently pledged to move past last year’s problems, stating that in Scotland it had recruited 2,000 additional seasonal staff.

More than 180 million items are expected to be delivered over the festive period in Scotland and the company has added 480 vehicles to its normal fleet of 3,290, as well as putting on extra flights and trains.

It has also spent £15 million on its operation to deal with the rise in online orders across the UK.

The last posting dates to reach the destination before Christmas are this Saturday for second-class mail and Tuesday December 20 for first class.
