Residents in the Broughty Ferry Road area have been assured that there has not been an invasion of white van men.
The sudden appearance over the past fortnight of more than a dozen white hire vans which were packed into a layby on the road has been explained.
Residents and passers-by contacted The Courier asking why all the vans and minibuses were sitting in the street near the junction with East Dock Street.
One resident, whose house overlooks the layby, said: ”There are sometimes three or four vans sitting there but I’ve never seen it so busy as this past fortnight.
”I don’t know where they’ve sprung from but all I can see out my window is a huge row of white vans for hire.”
Another resident said: ”There has been absolutely no courtesy left to people who live around here.”
The vehicles belonging to Arnold Clark and Enterprise Eurocar have now started to be moved away, explained Arnold Clark branch manager Nav Kang.
”At this time of year we get everybody off-hiring them,” she said. ”People have hired them for a year and they don’t want to pay the rental for the two weeks when their businesses are closed.
”So they bring them back and we unfortunately don’t have the storage space to keep them all in the yard at the same time. Our vans will all start disappearing back out again from Monday or Tuesday. I think it will be the same for the Enterprise ones too.”
