A hostel for homeless people in the centre of Dundee was evacuated after fire broke out in one of the flats.
Around 20 residents of the Transform Community Development premises in Soapwork Lane were ushered to safety by staff after the fire alarm was sounded at about 9.20pm on Tuesday.
A frying pan in the kitchen of one of the ground-floor flats burst into flames after being left unattended for a few minutes, and the smoke activated the alarm.
Tayside Fire and Rescue’s Blackness Road station sent several units to the four-storey building, formerly known as the Cyrenians shelter, off the Ladywell roundabout in Marketgait North.
They found a large group of residents already safely outside, and while one team of firefighters dealt with the outbreak another searched the building for people who had not come out.
Eventually they found an elderly male resident in a room in one of the upper floors. He had been unable to get out with the others, and firefighters helped him downstairs.
Watch manager Jim Smith said the man was unhurt and had not inhaled any smoke.
The officer in charge said the fire caused a minimal amount of damage to the ground-floor kitchen. The night manager at the hostel was not available to comment.
