A suspicious early-morning blaze in Dundee that left a teenager in hospital is being investigated.
The 19-year-old was taken to Ninewells Hospital after being treated for smoke inhalation following the fire at the flat in Pleasance Court about 1.30am on Wednesday.
Neighbours reported the ”panicky” man hanging out of the second-floor window of his apartment, shouting for help as smoke poured from an adjoining room.
Richard Fyffe (30), who lives in the opposite block of flats, watched the drama unfold from his window.
He said: ”I was getting ready to go to bed at about 1.30am when I heard shouting. I looked out and the guy was hanging out of the window to his waist he was coughing quite badly.
”The police were shouting up to him. He told them his eyes were stinging and he was asthmatic. He said he couldn’t find his inhaler or find a way out. They were trying to keep him calm because he was getting pretty panicky.”
Police raced into the building after the man threw down his keys to the officers below. Fire crews found cushions and a settee ablaze in separate rooms of the flat, which sustained extensive damage.
Blackness Road station watch manager Steve Kelly said: ”The youth had inhaled a lot of smoke and was black around the face, so the paramedics very quickly assessed him and got him off to hospital.”
