The victorious SNP administration in Dundee has named Councillor Bob Duncan as its nomination for the city’s new lord provost.

The party members met on Sunday afternoon to discuss roles and thrash out the finer details of their new term in office.

Mr Duncan was chosen as the party’s best possible candidate to take over from John Letford, who held the post for 11 years until he stepped down when Dundee went to the polls on Thursday.

Mr Duncan represents the Lochee ward, the area where Mr Letford also served.

Ken Guild, who will remain as leader of the administration, said: ”The meeting went very well. It was a very positive meeting, as you can imagine.

”They are keeping me on as leader and we will be nominating Bob Duncan for lord provost, which will be decided at the statutory meeting.”

Mr Guild has been leader of the SNP party in Dundee since 2007 and leader of the administration since it first seized power in 2009.

The statutory meeting with the whole council is expected to take place on May 21.

Mr Guild said there is plenty to be decided in the run-up to that gathering.

”There’s a fair amount of work to be done looking at the convenership and deputy convenerships and we will have to look at the other bodies councillors sit on,” he said.

”I don’t think the public are aware of how many outside bodies councillors are expected to sit on.”

Mr Duncan sat on the environment committee in the last administration.

All 16 SNP candidates were elected in Dundee, with Labour only managing 10.For full election results visit www.dundeecity.gov.uk
