Police in Dundee are hunting hooded thugs who perched on the ledge of a city centre flyover before hurling a stone at a passing vehicle.
The occupants of a truck were left terrified when the missile smashed into their windscreen on Tuesday evening.
Police confirmed they are hunting two male teenagers in connection with the incident.
It is the second time in just two months that a vehicle has been targeted as it entered the North Marketgait tunnel.
The windscreen of the white Ford flatbed truck was smashed shortly after 6.30pm on Tuesday. Although unhurt, the vehicle’s three occupants were said to be ”shaken”. They have declined to talk about the incident.
Police warned that the consequences could have been far more serious.
The incident happened as the truck was being driven west in the outside lane of North Marketgait, 50 metres north of the King Street junction.
A police spokeswoman said: ”The males were on the ledge adjacent to the flyover and as a result of their actions the windscreen was damaged and will need to be replaced. The potential consequences could have been much more severe.”
The two youths were in their early teens, both with brown hair. One was described as wearing a blue hooded top and grey tracksuit bottoms while the other was wearing a black hooded top with grey tracksuit bottoms.
The incident follows a similar attack on a taxi as it entered the tunnel at the same spot on March 14 when a ”shower of rocks” was thrown at the cab of Scott Cuthill.
First a rock smashed on to the bonnet, narrowly missing the windscreen, and he then had to avoid being pelted further as half a dozen stones hit the sides of the car.
Mr Cuthill’s taxi office offered a £200 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible but the culprits remain at large and the cash unclaimed.
Anyone with any information on either incident is asked to contact police on 0300 111 2222.
