EVENT - Award winning film-makers INFO - Jean & Ken McRonald of Toucan Films, with the Murdoch Quaich and the Lizars Salver, both from the Scottish Association of Moviemakers, for their film 'Turnips For Dinner' STORY BY - Reporters.

Amateur film makers Jean and Ken McRonald have been showing off the awards they received for their latest production, which was shot in Monifieth.

Last summer members of Monifieth Local History Society allowed Jean and Ken to use their venue, House of Memories, to film their five-minute drama Turnips for Dinner.

Yesterday the couple visited the society to display the trophies the film won.

The film received recognition at the Scottish Association of Moviemakers awards when it won the Murdoch Quaich and came second in the Lizars Salver.

The couple, who live in Monifieth, have completed over 80 short films under the name Toucan Films, and have won over 50 prizes.

“We’re very happy to come back here today with our awards and show the history society that we’re grateful for the use of their venue,” Mr McRonald (74), a former bank manager, said.

“The film making process helps keep us busy and these latest awards have been fantastic.”

Based upon a murder that took place during the 1950s in the south of England, their latest film involves the lives of three people living on a farm a wife, her husband and the wife’s father.

Dorothy Colloch plays the wife, Ward McGaughrin the husband and Lynn Smith the angry father.

All three are members of Dundee Dramatic Society.

Mrs McRonald said, “We have made many short films but we wanted to make this story into a film because the subject was really powerful and real.”
