City centre pub The Town closes with loss of 20 jobs

The Town bar and restaurant in Dundee city centre has closed with the loss of around 20 jobs.
The Commercial Street premises have now been put on the market.
The bar’s licence had been held by Perth-based Scoop and Scoff Ltd.
It is understood the company spent around £300,000 on a refit after taking over the venue in 2008, but the business was losing money.
A statement on its Facebook page said: ”Due to unforeseen circumstances I’m sad to say the Town bar has closed down.
”Thanks to all the staff and customers for making it the great place it was.
“Apologies to anyone who has made a booking, we will try our best to contact you personally.”
David Glass, vice-president of Dundee Licensed Trade Association, said: ”It proves it’s a hard time for all concerned in the pub game.
”I think Dundee city centre is a tough nut to crack just now. What with Wetherspoons round the corner and other cut-price places in the Seagate, I think a pub caught between those places will be right up against it.
”Basically they are slap bang in the middle.”
The Town occupied what was the wartime home of Lord Provost Garnett Wilson.
